Okay memory... don't fail me now!

I can't believe I totally blew it with this blog. Our NY trip was so busy, each night we came back the hotel so exhausted it was hard for me to get the blog updated.
But our trip was memorable and such a blessing, I am going to still finish it!

Here we go...

The next day we visited Patterson Bethel which is the education center. Some of the schools held here are the School for Elders, School for Christian Couples and Gilead (missionary) School to name a few!
We were given a personal tour by Edwin who is a brother of one our spiritual sisters the Carpinteria Spanish congregation. He works in the Legal Department and has been there for a year. He previously worked in the Purchasing Department... for 12 years! So, when Jehovah feels inclined to use you elsewhere he will do so! And of course because of the humility of our brothers and sisters, they gladly accept any new assignment.
This facility was gorgeous and my favorite. The walls are full of original artwork from the publications we are familiar with. There were a lot of originals up from the book "Bear Thorough Witness."

So much to do, so little time... to blog!

I knew this would happen. The last few days have been so busy! I'll do my best to remember everything!
Wednesday we visited Walkill Bethel. It was just as incredible as I knew it would be. It houses the printing presses that handle all the society's literature for the United States branch. They no longer print the Awake! and Watchtower, as most of you know that has been moved to the Canadian branch.
Sean and I got our own tour with a sister named Sally. She was so sweet and very knowledgeable.
One of the first things you notice about Bethel is how clean it is... I mean spotless. It's just amazing, but it's what you expect for Jehovah's house.
The printing presses are amazing. So incredibly fast. They print 120 books... per MINUTE! The rolls of paper used are 14 MILES long and last 25 minutes!
We got a special treat for our tour. Sean had met a brother in the lobby who is also an X-Ray Tech. So he was able to get us into the infirmary where we met the full time tech there. Her name was Jodi and she was so incredibly sweet. We saw the room she works in and we got to take some pictures.
We continued our tour and saw the packaging and shipping department which is run with such efficiency. Again.... everything was spotless! I just couldn't get over that.
We met up with Melissa and Robbie and had our first Bethel lunch! It was really awesome having that many brothers and sisters in the same room. There are 10 seats to each table. One brother acts as table head and after prayer let's us know which way to pass the food, this way things stay organized! 20 minutes later there is closing prayer but you can continue eating if you're not done.
Most of the Bethelites work 8-5 with an hour for lunch. Their day starts at 7am with morning worship which is required and there is assigned seating. The Daily Text is considered and I think 4 comments are shared. The comments are assigned just like we get assignments for our talks. Then a member of the Governing Body gives a 10 minute talk. This connected through video.
After lunch Melissa had to go back to work, but Robbie was able to give us an extra tour. We saw the new residence expansion that's being built and I believe he said it will house 400. He does electrical work for Bethel. We also got to visit the Documentation Department. They handle all the aspects of producing videos for in house use, safety videos, etc. We also got to meet a couple brothers who work in computer imaging. They add images and text to the videos.
After our tour Sean and I took a drive to New Paltz. The drive was beautiful and we stopped at the Watchtower Farm. They raise the cows that provide the beef for all three Bethels. We got to see a baby cow that recently had been born, so you know I loved that!
We met up with Melissa and Robbie for dinner and got to see where they live. A small modest studio... impeccably clean!
We drove to Poughkeepsie for dinner at Twisted Souls. The food was delicious... coconut curry noodles, pulled pork on corn cakes, sweet potato empanadas... so good!
The association with them was so wonderful and encouraging. What a self sacrificing spirit they both have and Jehovah is certainly blessing their efforts.
It was such a privilege to visit Walkill. Even though I've grown up knowing this was all run voluntarily, I had to keep reminding myself,"No one here is getting paid. They do it because they love Jehovah and want to help people." Just amazing...
I'm tired! More tomorrow. I'll fill you on on our visit to Patterson Bethel.
**Sorry about the pictures. They're totally out of order, this blog app is funky. :(

Finally Here

We made it to La Guardia at about 9:30 this morning. It was awesome getting to see the city as we flew in! It's hard to believe we're finally here.
We hauled all of our luggage out to the curb and into the Enterprise Rental Car shuttle. And that's where we had our first "New York experience." I've never seen anyone handle a vehicle that way... speeding around turns... practically mowing a couple people over who were barely out of the crosswalk!
Everyone we've interacted with has been so nice. But we've yet to go into the city...
Our first destination was Fishkill. It was about an hour drive north on an absolutely beautiful highway! Gorgeous trees just starting to change colors... stone bridges... loved it.
It's cold but not freezing! And I think we just missed the rain.
Our hotel is clean and quiet. We had dinner at a sushi place called Izumi. The food was good and so was the fried cheesecake for dessert!
A quick trip to Walmart and then back to our room! We got to Face Time with my parents and so we got to see the dogs! I love technology.
Time for sleep since we need to get up about 530 am tomorrow!
Next stop... Walkill Bethel! Our friends Melissa and Robbie, who live there, will be hosting us for lunch after the tour. This was the deciding factor for choosing where to go for our Anniversary vacation; visiting Bethel will really be such a highlight and joy for us both!
More tomorrow.

So far, so good

The Santa Barbara airport was awesome. Nice and quiet. My parents dropped us off, but couldn't really stay. I'm glad for the extra security, but it's too bad to not be able to have family or friends stay with you in the boarding area.
The flight over was interesting. It was my first time in a plane that small. It was a little unnerving. I hate flying, so being a plane that small didn't help. At the same time air travel is really amazing. And 20 mins to LA from SB? I can't complain about that.
We're at LAX waiting for our flight to Cleveland. We are full with McDonald's. I am really hoping I can get some sleep on this flight.

Ready to Go! (?)

The day is finally here. We leave for NY in about 5 hours! We're almost packed, but you know how that goes...
